Vehicle coverage
Drive axle and transfer case
Drive components carry power from the transmission to the wheels. Four-wheel and all-wheel drive vehicles have more of them, which adds more parts that can wear.
What this covers on many plans
- Front and rear drive axle housing and internal parts
- Transfer case on four-wheel and all-wheel drive vehicles
- Differentials
- Universal joints, constant-velocity joints and drive shafts, where the plan lists them
What usually causes these failures
- Worn bearings and joints, often first noticed as noise or vibration
- Low or leaking gear oil
- Heavy loads, towing or off-road use
Often not covered
- Boots and seals that tear from age, unless the plan lists them
- Wheels, tires, alignment and wheel bearings on many plans
- Lift kits and other modifications
- Problems that existed before coverage began
Questions to ask before you buy
- Are CV joints and boots covered or only the axle housing?
- Are modified or lifted vehicles excluded?
- Are wheel bearings covered?
Coverage depends on the plan you choose. The covered list, exclusions, limits and service fee in your contract decide what is paid. Ask for them in writing before you buy.
