Coverage limits

Limits decide what a claim actually pays. Two plans with similar prices can pay very differently on a large repair, so compare these numbers and not only the price.

The limits to compare

  • Service fee or deductible. What you pay each visit or each claim.
  • Per-item limit. The most paid for one covered item.
  • Per-claim limit. The most paid on a single claim.
  • Total limit. The most paid across the contract term.
  • Labor rate. Some plans cap the hourly labor rate they will pay.
  • Extra costs. How towing, rental, permits, haul-away, code upgrades and access to a hidden failure are treated.

Why this matters

A limit is not a flaw. It is part of how a plan is priced. It becomes a problem when it is not noticed until a claim. Your quote lists the numbers for the plan you are considering.
