Home coverage
Appliances
Appliances are covered only on plans that include them, and the list of appliances, along with the limit for each, varies by plan.
Items plans commonly list
- Refrigerator
- Range, oven and cooktop
- Dishwasher
- Washer and dryer
- Built-in microwave
- Garbage disposal
What usually causes these failures
- Motors, pumps and heating elements wearing out
- Control boards and sensors
- Door seals and latches
Often not covered
- Cosmetic damage, rust and dents
- Racks, shelves, drawers and other accessories
- Food spoilage
- Units used for commercial purposes
- Problems that existed before coverage began
- Failures from misuse or missing maintenance
Repair, replacement or payout
If a covered unit cannot be repaired, a plan may replace it, or pay a set amount instead, depending on the contract. Ask how the choice is made, whether there is a per-item limit, and whether payout amounts are stated in writing.
Questions to ask before you buy
- Which appliances are named, and what is each one's limit?
- Is there an age limit on covered appliances?
- How is replacement decided?
Coverage depends on the plan you choose. The covered list, exclusions, limits and service fee in your contract decide what is paid. Ask for them in writing before you buy.
