How to Compare Vehicle Service Contract Quotes Side by Side

A practical checklist for comparing vehicle service contract quotes: administrator, total price, deductible, waiting period, exclusions, repair choice, claims payment and cancellation.

By Silver Creek Hub · Updated November 3, 2026

Two quotes that look alike can read very differently once you open the contract. This checklist helps you compare them on equal terms.

Who we are. Silver Creek is an independent, third-party comparison hub (an aggregator) for vehicle service contracts and home service plans. We are not the contract administrator, the vehicle manufacturer or a dealer, and we are not affiliated with any other company that has a similar name. Companies named on this page are mentioned for information from independent sources, not as endorsements. We do not link to their sites.

Start with matching inputs

A fair comparison needs the same vehicle, the same mileage, the same term and the same deductible on every quote. Change one of those and you are comparing different products. If a quote is much lower than the rest, find out which of the items below was changed to get there.

The thirteen questions

Question to askWhy it matters
Who is the administrator? The administrator decides and pays claims. Ask for the name and where it is stated in the contract.
What does the price include?Compare the total over the term: down payment, monthly payments, fees and taxes, not only the monthly figure.
What is the deductible, and how is it charged?Typical deductibles run about $100 to $500. Ask whether it applies per visit or per repair.
What is the waiting period? Some plans start right away and others wait for days or miles. Ask for the exact start date and mileage.
What is covered, and how is it listed? Some contracts list covered parts. Others list what is excluded. Read the list that applies to your plan.
What is excluded?Look for wear items, pre-existing conditions, commercial use, modifications and maintenance requirements.
Where can I get repairs done?Ask whether you can pick any licensed shop, whether there is a network, and who calls to approve the repair.
How are claims paid?Direct payment to the shop is different from paying first and being reimbursed. Ask which applies.
Are there labor-rate or per-claim limits? Some plans cap labor rates, parts or total payout. Ask for the limits in writing.
What must I do to keep coverage? Many plans require scheduled maintenance and records. Ask what proof is needed and for how long.
Can I cancel, and what do I get back?Ask about refund rules, fees, and whether the refund is prorated. Read it in the contract.
Can the contract transfer if I sell the vehicle?Transfer rules and fees vary and can add value at resale.
Is it available in my state?Plans are not available everywhere, and terms differ by state.

Ask for the sample contract first

Ask every seller for a sample of the actual contract, not a brochure. Read three parts in this order: exclusions, how claims are approved and paid, and cancellation. Then compare prices. Our guide to reading a contract and our page on coverage limits walk through the wording.

Put the answers in one table

Write the answers for each seller side by side. A seller that avoids a question or will not put an answer in writing is telling you something. The contract is what counts, so check that the contract matches what you were told on the phone.
